Our unusual affair with beans….

21 Sep 2015

Last week we concluded our 2015 harvest by cutting our single field of beans. We only grow beans occasionally on the farm. They act as a valuable break crop in our rotation, similar to the rapeseed. The beans are used for animal feed and do not enter the food chain for humans.  As you can see, there are 4 or 5 beans to a pod.  When ripe, the crop looks almost dead in appearance – this is normal and what we are looking for before harvesting.
